TULSA, Oklahoma (Saturday, September 7th, 2019) – This evening Tulsa Roughnecks FC will play Rio Grande Valley Toros in USL Western Conference play. Kickoff from H-E-B Park (Edinburg, TX) is set for 7:30 P.M. CDT and will be streamed live on ESPN+.

This USL Championship match will be the second time the two sides meet this season. The first match at ONEOK Field (Tulsa, OK) ended in a 2-1 win for Tulsa with goals coming from Rodrigo Da Costa and Fabian Bastidas.

Tulsa Roughnecks FC enter the match with a 5-13-9 record sitting 16th in the USL Championship Western Conference. Rio Grande Valley FC are ranked just above Tulsa at 15th with four more points.

Tulsa Roughnecks FC go into tonights match following Wednesdays tie with El Paso Locomotive FC. Goals on Wednesday came from new signing and USL team of the week honoree Marlon, as well as midfielder Cristhian Altamirano.

Rio Grande Valley have a 7-12-7 overall record and a 6-4-3 home record. The Toros have two players who have found the goal nine times in 2019, Michael Slazar and Carlos Small. Both players will be watched closely by the Tulsa Roughnecks backline.

The Tulsa Roughnecks travelled to Texas to take on El Paso Locomotive in the USL Western Conference Championship play. The first half did not see much action until the 41st minute when Tulsa Roughnecks opened the scoring from a Marlon header. Marlon kept up his impressive start as a Roughnecks player scoring with a header from an Altamirano cross. The Tulsa Roughnecks entered the half 1-0 up.

The second half started off bright with Altamirano grabbing a goal of his own, this time from a Marlon cross. Altamirano scored a rocket of a shot from outside the 18-yard box that the El Paso goalkeeper could not get close to. El Paso answered the Tulsa Roughnecks’ early second half goal in the 80th minute with a header by Josue Gomez making it 2-1. Their second goal quickly followed a minute later by the El Paso Locomotive leading scorer, Jerome Kiesewetter. Despite both teams looking for that game winning goal, tonight’s match ended in a 2-2 tie.

Tulsa Roughnecks will remain in Texas as they travel to play the Rio Grande Valley Toros this Saturday. The team returns to ONEOK field Saturday, September 21st to face Orange County SC.

TULSA, OK– (Saturday, August 31st) Tulsa Roughnecks faced off against second place Fresno FC in USL Western Conference Championship play at ONEOK Field. The first half began with a bang in the 5th minute as Rodrigo Da Costa chested the ball to himself and put it into the bottom left corner with a perfect bicycle kick. Midway into the first half, Fresno opened up the game and found an equalizer in the 28th minute with a header from Jaime Chavez off of a free kick. From there the two teams battled back and forth into the break.

 

At the beginning of the second half the Roughnecks again got off to a hot start when Rodrigo Da Costa played a beautiful long ball along the ground to the feet of Marlon Prazeres where he placed the ball into the net around the keeper. Again Fresno looked to gain momentum after settling back into the game with a collective number of attacks to counter the Roughnecks pressure.

 

The Roughnecks went into a more defensive shape in the later part of the half which led to more pressure from Fresno. In the 84th minute Brayan Reyes was called for a foul in the penalty area which seemed to be the demise for the Roughnecks’ energetic night. Jackson Pereira stepped to the spot for Fresno and sent the ball over the bar sending ONEOK into a frenzy. After the missed penalty it seemed like a win was just meant to be for the Roughnecks on the cool August night. After a few more nervy attacks from Fresno the referee blew the whistle to give the Roughnecks their well-deserved first victory since April.

TULSA, OK– The Tulsa Roughnecks hosted Las Vegas Lights FC at ONEOK Field in USL Championship Western Conference play.

 

For the fourth time in club history, Roughnecks FC squared off against Las Vegas Lights, and stayed consistent with a fourth tie. The evenly-matched teams saw no significant activity in the first half besides 2 yellow cards for Vegas and one shown to Tulsa.

 

In the second half, a Las Vegas Lights corner kick from Preston Tabort-Etaka found Javan Torre who found the back of the net. That made it 1-0 to Las Vegas Lights in the 62nd minute. Tobenna Uzo came into the match for Fredlin Mompremier and needed only five minutes to make his mark. Uzo made it 1-1 finding the net. Both teams pushed for that game winner only to finish even.

The sale was completed on July 31, beginning a new era for one of the historic brands in North American professional soccer.

          The Roughnecks are a member of the USL Championship, sanctioned by the U.S. Soccer Federation as the second-highest level of professional soccer in the United States. Majority owners Jeff and Dale Hubbard, co-chairs of the Tulsa Drillers and owners of Tulsa Professional Soccer, along with minority owners Bob Funk and Tim McLaughlin, owners of Prodigal Soccer, launched the club in 2013, with the Roughnecks’ inaugural season in the USL Championship beginning in 2015. Saturday, August 17th – Tulsa Roughnecks FC travelled to Austin, TX to play the Austin Bold FC in USL Championship league play.

For the third time this season , the Tulsa Roughnecks FC squared off against Austin Bold FC. Bold got off to the perfect start with a counterattack off of a Roughnecks corner when Twumasi found the back of the net to make it 1-0 to the home side. Minutes later, Austin Bold FC doubled their lead to make it 2-0 when Andre Lima hit a shot past Stajduhar. The third and fourth goal followed from the penalty spot where Andre Klebber converted both spot kicks in the 25th and 41st minute. The Roughnecks did find the back of the net in the 41st minute from the penalty spot after a foul on Cristhian Altamirano. Cristhian converted the spot kick giving Tulsa a point on the board. Halftime score 4-1 to the home team.

The Tulsa Roughnecks started off the second half creating multiple chances but were unable to score their second goal of the match. Austin Bold FC were awarded their third and the nights fourth penalty of the match. Sonny Guardarrama took the PK and found the back of the net with the final score finishing 5-1 to the home side.

The team returns to ONEOK field Wednesday, August 28th vs. Las Vegas Lights, then playing Fresno Saturday, August 31st.
