The Tulsa Roughnecks, led by their new coach, Michael Nsien, came away with their third consecutive preseason win defeating Swope Park Rangers of the USL Championship Eastern Conference.

Goals by Cristhian Altamirano and Fabian Bastidas gave the Tulsa Roughnecks the 2-1 win . Altamirano converted a first half penalty kick just before halftime, that made the score 1-0 . Swope equalized in the 85th minute off a wide free kick that was headed in by Enzo Mauriz.  The Tulsa Roughnecks answered Swope Park Rangers goal immediately from a corner kick that Fabian Bastidas headed in at the back post.

“We anticipated this game would test us in different areas that we have yet to be challenged so far in preseason and knew that Swope Park Rangers would want to have the majority of the ball”, said Michael Nsien (Head Coach, Tulsa Roughnecks), “We had good defensive lines, created multiple chances early that we didn’t take advantage of, and we are very disappointed to give up a late goal on a set piece.  I want to thank the fans for their continued support and attendance, as a team we keep moving forward ”.

Tulsa Roughnecks next preseason game sees the team travel to  play Saint Louis FC (Saturday, February 23rd). The team returns to Claremore, Oklahoma to play Rogers State University (Tuesday, February 26th).

Monday night the Tulsa Roughnecks played their second preseason match of the 2019 season against Oral Roberts University.  The game was played at the newly opened State of the art Titan Sports Complex and The Roughnecks came away with the 2-0 victory. The games only two goals were scored by Rodrigo DaCosta and Luca Lobo. Head Coach Michael Nsien played 25 players including the much anticipated preseason debut for Cristhian Altamirano, an International player from Honduras who joined the team just this week.

“Every week we are getting better in our particular areas of focus, which we showed tonight” said Michael Nsien (Head Coach, Tulsa Roughnecks), “the players are showing good attitude towards taking in new information and understanding their teammates. The next month is very important that we grow in the other phases of the game. Always good to shut out the opposition.”

The Roughnecks next preseason match is this Saturday, again at Titan Sports Complex where  they will play Swope Park Rangers  of the USL Championship Western Conference (Sporting KC’s 2nd team) Entry is free for this preseason game and kicks off at 1:00pm CT.

Saturday marked the beginning of a new era for soccer in the City of Tulsa. The Tulsa Roughnecks, led by their new coach, Michael Nsien, started to implement its style of play with a whole new team of players from all around the world.

 

Goals by Akeil Barrett and Janu Silva gave the Tulsa Roughnecks a 2-1 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the Roughnecks first preseason match.

In the First half, the Tulsa Roughnecks maintained possession for the majority of time, creating some very good chances, only to be stopped by the Oklahoma Wesleyan goalkeeper.  The teams went into halftime scoreless despite numerous Roughneck chances.

 

Roughnecks Akeil Barrett scored the first goal of the game following a good team build up with an assist coming from local Tulsan DJ Dean.

The second goal followed quickly thereafter where this time Akeil Barrett provided the assist, crossing the ball to Janu Silva who scored passed the Wesleyan goalkeeper.

“We managed to play 25 players today and came away fit and healthy with only a few minor knocks,” said Michael Nsien (Head Coach, Tulsa Roughnecks), “It’s tough to get a rhythm playing that many players but today was more about maxing players out and getting minutes under our belt”.

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa Roughnecks FC has signed three local players for the 2019 season, 22-year old Midfielder Colton Haskin, 25 year-old Defender Matt Rogers, and 29 year-old Midfielder Tyrone Blackwell.

 

Haskin and Rogers both played college soccer for Oral Roberts University.

 

“My soccer career started to take off here at Oral Roberts University,” said Haskin, “There is no better place to sign my first professional contract other than the place that I have called home for the last 5 years, Tulsa”

 

“Being from Tulsa, I am super excited about starting my professional career with the Roughnecks,” said Rogers, “I want to thank my college coaches, my friends and my family for supporting me throughout this entire process.”

Blackwell previously for Bacone College and Tulsa Athletics.

“I have been in the country for 12 years and 10 of those years have been here in Oklahoma, said Blackwell, “I am excited to sign my first pro contract here in Tulsa, a city I have called home for all these years.”
