USL Championship Regular Season
Lexington SC 0:0 FC Tulsa
Friday, October 9, 2026 – Lexington SC Stadium – Lexington, Kentucky
FC Tulsa earned a hard fought road point against Lexington SC in a scoreless affair last Friday night in the Bluegrass State. The Scissortails recorded their 12th clean sheet in league play, extending the club record, and 14th clean sheet across all competitions.
The hosts controlled the flow of the match early on, holding 67 percent of the possession in the opening 45 minutes. They were not able to convert that momentum into meaningful attacking chances, however, as the Scissortail back line continued its first half defensive prowess. Lexington continued to threaten in the second half, tallying 12 shots in the frame. Only two were on target though as Dane Jacomen continued his dominant play between the sticks with his eighth clean sheet of the regular season.
KEY STORYLINES
The Scissortails clinched their second consecutive postseason berth after the conclusion of the last matchweek. The club’s sights now turn to a home playoff match which it does not control its destiny for. All it can do is win its last two matches and hope for Sacramento or Lexington to slip up down the stretch to see playoff soccer return to the 918. If Tulsa was to host a playoff match, it would not find out until next weekend.
Last weekend saw FC Tulsa play its 400th match across all competitions, becoming just the eighth USL Championship side to reach that milestone. This Saturday, the club will celebrate its 200th match at ONEOK Field across all competitions, spanning 12 years of professional soccer in Green Country.
Head coach Luke Spencer sits on the verge of becoming the club’s all-time winningest head coach across all competitions on Saturday night with a victory. He is currently tied with Michael Nsien at 36 wins but has reached that mark in 44 fewer matches. Since Spencer’s arrival in Oklahoma, the Scissortails have reached new heights on the pitch culminating in the club’s first ever Western Conference championship last season. Tulsa looks to continue that trajectory as playoff soccer nears.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Goalkeeper Dane Jacomen: Since taking over the starting role on July 18 against El Paso, Jacomen has simply been the best goalkeeper in the Western Conference. In his last 15 starts, he has recorded eight clean sheets, an 81.25% save percentage and a goals allowed average of 0.60, all best in the West in that stretch. Tulsa will look to ride his hot hand into the postseason and continue its remarkable defensive prowess.
Defender Owen Damm: The 23-year-old wingback has produced a much-needed spark for the Black and Gold since returning from injury a few weeks ago. He provides a valuable dimension to this Tulsa side with his ability to lock down a side of the pitch a luxury in this league. As he ramps up his match fitness, Damm is likely to be leaned on as the season winds down to give a spark to the club’s playoff aspirations.
Forward Arquímides Ordóñez: The Guatemalan international has been a mixed bag in his time in Oklahoma but has clearly earned the trust of head coach Luke Spencer with starts in nine of the club’s last 12 matches. At his best, Ordóñez is perhaps the most aggressive of Tulsa’s attacking options with a nose for goal and the ability to create opportunities for others around him. His play will be key to the Scissortails reaching their postseason goals.
OPPONENT INFO: OAKLAND ROOTS SC
This is the seventh meeting between Tulsa and Oakland with the two sides all squared up with two wins apiece and a pair of draws. FC Tulsa is looking for its first win at ONEOK Field against Oakland Roots SC with this weekend’s visitors victorious in the previous two matchups.
First year head coach Ryan Martin is looking to propel his side into the postseason with Oakland recording four consecutive clean sheets entering this match. The reigning USL Championship Golden Boot winner Peter Wilson has had another superb campaign up top with 13 goals, tied for fifth in the league. Wolfgang Prentice (5 goals, 7 assists) and Jesús de Vicente (5 assists, 40 chances created) will be the primary men feeding Wilson with former Tulsa man Bruno Lapa also available to be deployed on the wing. Thomas McCabe will anchor the defense for the Roots in front of goalkeeper Kendall McIntosh who has seven clean sheets to his name in 2026.
KEY STATISTICS
– Tulsa has allowed just eight first half goals in the regular season, the lowest mark in the league, including just one at ONEOK Field.
– Oakland has gotten off to slow starts on the road, only leading at halftime in one match out of 13.
– Saturday’s match features contrasting styles of play as Oakland ranks third in the West in possession (53.91%) while Tulsa ranks last (44.34%).
RECENT QUOTES
Head coach Luke Spencer on recent results: “I’m proud of the team. I think it’s been a challenging stretch where we’ve played really good opponents and been on the road, so we’re definitely battle tested. There are still things we need to improve upon. I don’t think that we’ve performed as a team to the best of our ability yet, but that’s a good thing in a way because that keeps us striving for something. We’re excited for this weekend, and we know we’re prepared.”
Spencer on matching physicality of opponents: “We’ve been a physical team all year. That’s our identity and is not going to change. I think the challenge on the road is that the crowd is against you, and sometimes that can sway how the game is called, so we’ve been up against that. I’m proud of the way that the guys have dealt with it, and that’s only going to make us better and more prepared as we enter the last stretch here.”
Abdoulaye Cissoko on players back from injury: “It’s good to have everyone back. It’s brought more competition to the roster and for spots in the starting eleven. The competition for each position raises the overall level of the team. It’s really nice to see Bouba and Owen back. We’re still integrating everyone back into our DNA and everything, but it’s great to have more numbers back.”
Forward Arquímides Ordóñez on keys to success: “I think in our upcoming games, we just need to continue setting the tempo. We need to keep playing to our physicality and our speed and make sure that we’re a very aggressive team. If we do that on a consistent basis, the results will follow.”
