FC Tulsa 1:0 New Mexico United
Wednesday, September 30, 2026 – ONEOK Field – Tulsa, Oklahoma
An early goal from Will Wilson was all FC Tulsa needed on Wednesday night to take down New Mexico United 1-0 at ONEOK Field and pick up a massive three points against a Western Conference foe.
The visitors controlled much of the possession early on, holding 79 percent of the ball in the opening 45 minutes. The Scissortails were patient on the counter and capitalized with high pressure in the 19th minute as Jeorgio Kocevski intercepted a pass and flicked the turnover onto Logan Dorsey. His initial shot was saved, but Wilson was there to clean it up and give Tulsa a lead it would not relinquish.
FC Tulsa recorded its 11th clean sheet of the regular season, setting a new club single season record. Dane Jacomen came up big with six saves on the night, tying a season high, including a key double save in the first half to keep the visitors off the score sheet.
KEY STORYLINES
Wednesday was a massive result for the Scissortails to get back on track and take advantage of its match in hand in the Western Conference table. A season-high 20 shots saw the attack create multiple scoring chances, and the visitors going a man down certainly helped matters. Tulsa surged up to fourth place and sits just five points clear of securing a playoff spot. The Black and Gold can climb even higher this weekend against third place Sacramento in their third matchup of the season.
ONEOK Field has been a tough place to play for opponents in 2026. The Scissortails have allowed just seven goals in 13 league matches, the fewest in the Western Conference, while also allowing only one goal in the first half. With a league-best eight clean sheets, the Tulsa defense has imposed its will in these matches and controlled the pace of play to its liking as it fights to secure more playoff soccer in the 918.
Head coach Luke Spencer sits on the verge of becoming the club’s all-time winningest head coach across all competitions on Saturday night with a victory. He is currently tied with Michael Nsien at 36 wins but has reached that mark in 46 fewer matches. Since Spencer’s arrival in Oklahoma, the Scissortails have reached new heights on the pitch culminating in the club’s first ever Western Conference championship last season. Tulsa looks to continue that trajectory as playoff soccer comes within reach.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Defender Owen Damm: Tulsa fans were ecstatic to see the 23-year-old wingback make his return from injury last Friday night off the bench after a two-month absence. Damm’s early season form provided a valuable dimension to this Tulsa side with his ability to lock down a side of the pitch a luxury in this league. As he ramps up his match fitness, Damm is likely to be leaned on as the season winds down to give a spark to the club’s playoff aspirations.
Midfielder Will WIlson: The Kenyan midfielder has grown in confidence over his few starts for the club, resulting in his first goal as a Scissortail on Wednesday as he cleaned up a loose ball off a rebound. The 24-year-old has shown versatility as either an attacking midfielder or winger to do a little bit of everything and provides another capable option in the attack for Tulsa moving forward.
Forward Logan Dorsey: As the Scissortails have looked for more consistency in the attack these last few weeks, Dorsey has often answered the bell with five goals across all competitions since joining the squad in June. The Minnesota United FC loanee has shown a knack for getting the ball in dangerous areas and should be called on down the stretch to slot those chances home as the playoff push continues.
OPPONENT INFO: SACRAMENTO REPUBLIC FC
This is the 19th meeting between Tulsa and Sacramento with this Saturday’s visitors holding a lead in the all-time series. Last season, the Scissortails recorded their first two victories against their California counterparts, both in 1-0 fashion. Taylor Calheira’s late goal was the difference back in March 2025 at ONEOK Field while Kalil ElMedkhar did the job in Sacramento later that June.
This match features the top two seeds from the Western Conference in 2025. These two sides have faced off twice in 2026 with each side winning at home. Tulsa did so on a Jamie Webber finish back on August 5.
Neill Collins looks to outperform last season’s early playoff exit, and his side is rounding into form as they are unbeaten in their last nine matches dating back to their last match in Oklahoma. Kyle Edwards (8 goals) has led the Sacramento attack this season as the club looks to add Cal Jennings into the fold. Lee Desmond and Jared Timmer anchor a strong back line for the visitors with Danny Vitiello leading the Western Conference in clean sheets (9).
KEY STATISTICS
– Saturday’s match features the best two defenses in the Western Conference as both back lines have allowed just 0.92 goals per match.
– Tulsa has allowed just eight first half goals in the regular season and only one at ONEOK Field, both the lowest marks in the league. On the flip side, Sacramento has allowed the fewest second half goals in the league (10).
– Sacramento is unbeaten in 2026 when scoring first with a record of 9-0-3.
RECENT QUOTES
HC Luke Spencer four-match September road trip: “I think it was a difficult stretch, but I’m proud of the mentality of the group. I think there’s been a consistent fight. We knew that there were going to be challenges on the road, and we took every game in stride. We’re where we need to be at this point. I’m proud of what the guys learned and how they improved through this process, and so we’re looking forward to coming back home and playing in front of our fans here.”
Spencer on matching physicality of opponents: “We’ve been a physical team all year. That’s our identity and is not going to change. I think the challenge on the road is that the crowd is against you, and sometimes that can sway how the game is called, so we’ve been up against that. I’m proud of the way that the guys have dealt with it, and that’s only going to make us better and more prepared as we enter the last stretch here.”
Abdoulaye Cissoko on players coming back from injury: “It’s good to have everyone back. It’s brought more competition to the roster and for spots in the starting eleven. The competition for each position raises the overall level of the team. It’s really nice to see Bouba and Owen back. We’re still integrating everyone back into our DNA and everything, but it’s great to have more numbers back.”
Stefan Lukic on aggressive mentality up top: “What we do is not easy. To play for FC Tulsa, it’s a challenge. It’s not for every player, but when you buy in, then we become a team that’s definitely tough to beat and a team that will challenge anyone in this league.”
