An early goal from Jeorgio Kocevski in the eighth minute was the difference as FC Tulsa took down Rhode Island FC 1-0 on Saturday night at ONEOK Field.
The Scissortails came flying out the gate with some exquisite passing sequences including one in the eighth minute which saw Remi Cabral flick a ball onto Kocevski who slotted it home to give Tulsa an early lead. The visitors had the higher share of possession in the period and more shots but were unable to break through in the opening 45 minutes.
Rhode Island continued to look for answers in the second half, but Dane Jacomen was up for the task with six saves on the night. The Tulsa back line did the rest of the work to see out the 1-0 victory and secure their tenth win of the regular season.
KEY STORYLINES
In the last week, FC Tulsa has announced long-term extensions for General Manager and Sporting Director Caleb Sewell and Head Coach Luke Spencer. Both have radically transformed the club’s on-field product in just under two seasons at the helm and immediately led the Scissortails to their best season in club history in 2025, culminating in a Western Conference championship last season and hosting the USL Championship Final, both firsts for the club. These moves reflect the club’s intentions to be among the league’s best in its on and off-field endeavors as the next chapter for FC Tulsa begins.
Jacomen’s fifth clean sheet of the regular season was good enough to both give him the club lead and earn him a spot on the USL Championship Team of the Week. His six saves were his most in league play this season as he continued his impeccable form between the sticks.
The Western Conference has been a bloodbath in 2026 with the gap between second place and eighth a mere six points. FC Tulsa currently finds themselves in the middle of that pack in a three-way tie for third place but has matches in hand on both El Paso and Orange County ahead of them. As the club continues to get players back from injury, the Scissortails are in prime position to make a late charge with matches left against five of its top six challengers.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Goalkeeper Dane Jacomen: Jacomen has been unreal since taking over the starting role in mid-July, allowing just three goals in his last eight starts with five clean sheets in this stretch. He currently boasts a staggering 0.55 GAA (goals allowed average) and an 81.3% save percentage in the regular season, cementing himself as a force to be reckoned with between the sticks for the Scissortails.
Midfielder Jeorgio Kocevski: Only two Scissortails have played in every single match across all competitions in 2026. One is Jamie Webber, and the other is Kocevski, an unsung hero for this club in the midfield. The Syracuse grad has grown immensely in his central midfield role over the course of the season and has been able to get more involved in the attack in recent weeks since Giordano Colli was inserted into the starting lineup above him in the formation. As the Black and Gold have dealt with injuries and new additions taking time to build chemistry, Kocevski has been a consistent presence and will be called on as the playoff push continues.
Forward Remi Cabral: The French forward has returned from a month-long absence and has been getting reacclimated to the Scissortail attack in recent weeks. Cabral helped set up Quimi Ordóñez’ first goal against Orange County before recording his first assist of the season on Kocevski’s match winner last weekend. As he continues to build his match fitness back up, he figures to be an integral part of FC Tulsa’s playoff pursuits as the regular season winds down.

This is the 25th meeting between Tulsa and San Antonio with this weekend’s hosts holding a slight lead. With this match, San Antonio will become the Scissortails’ most common opponent across all competitions.
Tulsa is unbeaten in its last six regular season meetings against San Antonio including wins in its last two trips to the Alamo City.
