TULSA – The largest crowd of the season will file into ONEOK Field on Friday night when FC Tulsa hosts Darío Suárez, Brett Levis, and the rest of Detroit City FC following the transfer that brought midfielder Tommy McCabe to Tulsa earlier this month.
McCabe has played both the center-back and central midfielder positions for Tulsa in three matches since being acquired, effectively linking up play between the backline and attacking corps. Before moving to Tulsa, the 2021 USL Championship title winner appeared 12 times in all competitions for Detroit City FC this season.
Friday night will mark the first time that Darío Suárez lines up for the opposition in the stadium that he called home since 2020 before he was dealt to Detroit City FC. Suárez appeared 90 times for FC Tulsa with 29 goals and 10 assists. Both marks are second-best in franchise history. Levis appeared eight times for FC Tulsa after signing with the club this past offseason.
With the bright lights illuminating the pitch and the smell of beer priced at $1 wafting in from the Midfield Terrace, FC Tulsa will do everything in its power to snap its current three-match skid against the USL Championship’s lowest-scoring offense.
In three head-to-head meetings dating back to the visitors’ inaugural 2022 USL-C season, FC Tulsa has never lost to Detroit City FC, posting a 1W-0L-2D record with its win coming at ONEOK Field last May.
Le Rouge currently sits in 9th place in the Eastern Conference standings, two spots ahead of FC Tulsa with a three-point margin. However, an FC Tulsa win would see the Black and Patina leapfrog Detroit City in the standings as head-to-head points would serve as the tiebreaker between both sides.
Kickoff from ONEOK Field is set for 8 p.m. CT.
SCOUTING DETROIT CITY FC
Detroit City enters Friday’s contest with a 4W-6L-4D record, fresh off a 1-0 loss at Orange County SC last weekend. The road has not favored Le Rouge as the club has been shut out six times away from Keyworth Stadium, posting a 2W-4L-3D record as the visitors. With only 10 goals scored, Detroit City sits in last place when it comes to finding the back of the net in the USL Championship.
A bright spot for DCFC is goalkeeper Nate Steinwascher who has posted five clean sheets and continues to solidify himself as one of the league’s top keepers. With a save percentage at 75.4% and conceding only 0.9 goals per 90 minutes, Steinwascher has been an essential asset in the team’s defensive efforts.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Fans of fantastic goalkeeping are in for a Friday night treat as two of the USL Championship’s best square off between the posts. Michael Nelson and Nate Steinwascher are tied with one another for the 4th-most saves in the league (46), and in addition, Nelson ranks 4th in saves per 90 with 3.2 while Steinwascher sits one spot below with 2.9.
TUNE IN
For the first time ever, fans can catch the match locally on Channel 6 (KOTV) as well as stream nationally on ESPN+. In addition, FC Tulsa will be broadcasted over the radio locally on The Blitz 1170 as well as nationally on Sirius XM FC Channel 157.
