TULSA – Last Saturday night, FC Tulsa was honored to partner with Catholic Charities, Tulsa Public Schools and Food on the Move in welcoming over 150 Afghan refugees who have recently relocated to Tulsa to Section 918 for something familiar amongst extraordinary change – soccer.
In the midst of the turmoil in Afghanistan, families have been able to find safety and solace in Tulsa, a city leading the charge in accepting refugees during this crisis. Catholic Charities has been accepting and welcoming these families while other organizations such as Food on the Move, Tulsa Public Schools, and many more have teamed up to provide these families with temporary housing, food, education, medical services, and other necessities.
FC Tulsa was able to join the effort in giving these families a new start by providing an evening of entertainment as they were invited to the October 30 match against OKC Energy FC. Not only were they able to connect with the game they know but were also able to connect to the local community here in Tulsa around a shared love of soccer as the families look to make Tulsa their new home.
Tulsa Public Schools provided buses for the families to travel to-and-from the match as they were able to take their minds off everything that has happened over the last few months and enjoy the universal game of soccer for a few hours.
