Another Wednesday night means another edition of What to Watch for from your friends at FC Tulsa, and with plenty of matchups involving Central Division clubs this evening, there is a lot to keep an eye out for.
Birmingham Legion FC vs. Austin Bold FC
First on the docket is Birmingham Legion hosting Austin Bold FC, two clubs with whom FC Tulsa is very familiar with. Sitting in second place with 53 points, just two behind leaders Louisville City FC, Birmingham Legion FC is hoping to officially clinch a Top-2 seed with a win tonight at BBVA Field where Legion FC is accustomed to earning three points. Birmingham and LouCity will likely be battling for the top spot until the final match of the season in which they will meet in Birmingham on October 30, the same night FC Tulsa will host OKC Energy FC for its final regular-season match of 2021. What a night of soccer that will be – make sure you mark it in your calendars.
Louisville City FC vs. Memphis 901 FC
Speaking of Louisville, the boys in purple will be traveling to AutoZone Park tonight to take on Memphis 901 FC, a match that could have huge Playoffs implications for FC Tulsa. Tulsa is just one point ahead of Memphis in the standings with the same number of matches played, so FC Tulsa fans need to be rooting against Memphis for the remainder of the season to clinch the third spot and avoid the fourth seed and a likely trip to play the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the first round of the Playoffs.
LouCity comes into tonight's match against Memphis on a seven-match unbeaten streak. September 3 marks the last time the club lost, courtesy of yours truly, FC Tulsa. In two meetings this season, Louisville has beaten Memphis once and the two clubs split points in the most recent matchup. After a one-match break from one another, LouCity and Memphis will meet again on October 23 in Louisville for the final head-to-head contest.
Sporting Kansas City II vs. Atlanta United 2
The final matchup on Wednesday night involving Central Division clubs will be played in Kansas City as Sporting KC II welcomes Atlanta United 2 to Children’s Mercy Park. This match certainly has the least relevance to FC Tulsa, but we like to cover every matchup. Sporting KC II has been eliminated from Playoffs contention for a few weeks now, and Atlanta United 2 is right on the verge. With a loss tonight, Atlanta would join Sporting KC II as the only other club to be eliminated from the Central.
