TULSA – One final weekly honor came in for FC Tulsa as forward Joaquín Rivas took home the fan-voted Goal of the Week for Weeks 1 & 2. Rivas’ second goal against OKC Energy FC on April 24 in FC Tulsa’s 3-1 victory received 43% of the votes, the most of any of the five finalists around the league.
Rivas’ strike came out of nowhere as the forward volleyed a header from Matt Sheldon on the left side of the penalty area. The ball looped up and over Energy FC goalkeeper C.J. Cochran’s head and into the back of the net, giving FC Tulsa a 2-0 lead at the time.
The goal was Rivas’ 19th all-time in an FC Tulsa uniform as the forward is one goal away from matching the franchise mark for career goals, currently held Sammy Ochoa (20).
He’ll get his next chance to tie the record on Saturday as FC Tulsa travels to Indy Eleven for a 6 p.m. kickoff against their Central Division opponent. The match will be broadcast locally in Tulsa on My41 and shown nationally on ESPN+.
