TULSA – In the spring of 2021, FC Tulsa will become the first USL Championship club to launch its own Ticket Sales Academy, hiring students in Tulsa that aspire to a career in professional sports. Through the Academy, students will train weekly with FC Tulsa management to prepare for the sports industry with skills learned in the Academy.
While participants can obtain college credit through the Ticket Sales Academy course, they will also be able to earn commission on every ticket they sell.
“We know internships are hard to come by for any student interested in a sports career right now,” said FC Tulsa’s chief business officer Michael Schetzel. “Through this Ticket Sales Academy, we want to give local students valuable professional sports experience that can be put on a résumé, and at the same time help them earn income through their sales.”
FC Tulsa boasts one of the most experienced ticket sales teams in the league, led by Schetzel, a 30-year veteran of pro sports front offices from the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball to Real Salt Lake of Major League Soccer. The club’s vice president of ticketing, Jake Shaw, similarly has experience at the highest level with the NCAA and the Dallas Wings of the WNBA while FC Tulsa’s ticket sales manager, Aaron Burrell, brings his experience of working in MLS’ National Sales Center.
