TULSA – This evening, the United States Men’s National Team will host the national team from El Salvador. The match kicks off at 6:30 p.m. CT and will air on ESPNews. FC Tulsa fans will want to be sure to tune into this one, because new signing Joaquín Rivas is set to make his sixth career cap for the El Salvador National Team. Here are three things to know about the first new arrival to FC Tulsa’s 2021 roster.
1) Rivas' first call up was with the Roughnecks
Rivas was first called up to the national team in September of 2018 for a friendly against Brazil. He was an unused substitute in a 5-0 loss. At the time, Rivas played for Tulsa Roughnecks FC, and he was having a career season in which he set the club record for goals in a season.
2) First career cap with El Salvador
Once the 2018 USL Championship had ended, Rivas was called up again to the national team for a pair of CONCACAF Nations League qualification matches. He was again an unused sub against Barbados, but he made his international debut against Bermuda, coming on at halftime in a 1-0 loss.
3) Rivas' first international goal
Four days later, Rivas made his first start for El Salvador, scoring the winner in a 1-0 win against Haiti. It was Rivas’ first international goal in his first start for the selection.
Rivas is the only player in Tulsa’s USL Championship history to have been called up for national team duty while on the roster.
