TULSA – When FC Tulsa celebrated on the ONEOK Field pitch on Saturday night after clinching Group D’s second seed, the club knew it would be on the road in the first round of the USL Championship Playoffs, but it didn’t yet know its First Round opponent. El Paso Locomotive FC needed a win on Sunday in its regular season finale to lock up the No. 1 seed in Group C, and that’s just what it did with a 2-0 victory over Real Monarchs SLC.
With El Paso’s win, FC Tulsa will travel to the western tip of Texas next weekend for a First Round match against Locomotive FC on Saturday, October 10. The teams didn’t meet in the 2020 regular season after the schedule was re-shuffled following the COVID-19 hiatus and regular season format changes.
El Paso finished its 2020 campaign as one of the best teams in the Western Conference with a 9W-2L-5D record and riding an 11-match unbeaten streak dating back to August 1. Like FC Tulsa, Locomotive FC have also beaten San Antonio FC this season as Tulsa and El Paso are the only two clubs to accomplish that feat against SAFC.
As a reminder, the 2020 USL Championship bracket is a 16-team single elimination bracket with each round being hosted by the team with the better record. For FC Tulsa, it will be on the road for at least the first two rounds. Stand by for more information regarding tickets for fans wanting to make a road trip, as well as information related to an FC Tulsa Watch Party.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CT and the match will be broadcast locally in Tulsa on My41 Tulsa and nationally on ESPN+. Stay tuned to @FCTulsa on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for official announcements related to the playoff match.
