TULSA, OK– The Tulsa Roughnecks played host to San Antonio FC in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, September 25th at ONEOK Field.
The match started off with a bang as Toby Uzo smashed a header into the top of the net on the end of a Cristhian Altamirano cross and in the second minute of the match. Things continued from there as, in the sixth minute, Rodrigo Da Costa put Marlon dos Santos through behind the backline of San Antonio FC to pass the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net, doubling the lead. In the 12th minute, Rafael Castillo tucked a shot into the bottom right corner cutting the deficit to one. Castillo struck again in the 25th minute off a set piece just outside the box to level the score at two apiece. In the 30th minute, Walter Restrepo of San Antonio FC cut through the Roughnecks defense and scored near post from the byline. Just before the halftime whistle, Cristhian Altamirano was fouled inside the San Antonio FC box. He then took smashed the penalty into the top corner, ending the half even at 3-3.
The second half saw each side settled into the game and focused on not giving up more goals. San Antonio saw the second half with the majority of possession, but the Roughnecks had flashes of chances. Toby Uzo had multiple chances from outside the box, but Cardone was never put under too much pressure until the 80th minute. Manny Gonzalez struck a shot from 25 yards out across his body that troubled Cardone after a deflection off a defender. Also in the 80th minute, the referee saw that the match needed to be delayed due to lightning was within striking range of the stadium. After a 30-minute lightning delay, the game picked right back up where it left off. In the 87th minute, Fredlin Mompremier was on the receiving end of a Rodrigo Da Costa assist as he took one touch inside the box and finished it far post, giving the Roughnecks the lead. The match ended shortly after with the Tulsa Roughnecks on top 4-3.
The Tulsa Roughnecks travel to Tacoma this for a match on September 28th, but are back at home next Saturday, October 5th to take on Sacramento Republic FC at ONEOK Field.
