Saturday, August 10th – The Tulsa Roughnecks travelled to Salt Lake City, Utah to take on Real Monarchs in USL Championship action.
At altitude of 4,700ft, Tulsa Roughnecks FC and Real Monarchs squared off for the second time this season. The first half saw Real Monarchs with the majority of the better chances only to be stopped by Tulsa Roughnecks FC Goalkeeper Sean Lewis. The home team did get the better of Lewis in the 16th minute when Damian German found the back of the net from inside the box. Real Monarchs entered half time with the 1-0 lead over Tulsa Roughnecks FC.
The home team quickly took a strong hold on the second half after scoring on a long range freekick, from Jack Blake, that soared into the top left corner. Blake’s freekick made the score 2-0 in the 56th minute. Tulsa Roughnecks created chances with the home team leading by two. A chance fell to Rodrigo Da Costa that he put just over the bar. Soon after that, Real Monarchs’ Kalen Ryden scored their third goal of the night; a back post header in the 77th minute making it 3-0. Michael Chang finished the scoring for the home side in the 89th minute for a 4-0 lead. Tulsa Roughnecks scored the final goal of the match finding the back of the net in 90th minute making the final score 4-1.
Tulsa Roughnecks FC travel to Austin Bold next weekend in USL Championship play. The teams will return to ONEOK field Wednesday August 28th vs. Las Vegas Lights, then playing Fresno Saturday, August 31st.
