MATCH PREVIEW
Saturday, June 16
at Phoenix Rising FC
Kickoff – 9:30 p.m. CDT
at Phoenix Rising FC Soccer Complex
The Tulsa Roughnecks FC takes to the road again this weekend for a second meeting with Phoenix Rising FC on Saturday, June 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CDT at the Phoenix Rising FC Soccer Complex.
The Roughnecks enter the match still in search of their first win of the season after falling 3-0 at home to Saint Louis last weekend. It was the second straight loss for TRFC after suffering only one loss in its previous eight games (7 draws, 1 loss).
It will be the second and final meeting of the regular season between the two sides. Phoenix recorded a 5-1 victory on May 12 at ONEOK Field, but that match was level at 1-1 after 65 minutes.
That result was only the second loss ever for the Roughnecks to the Phoenix franchise that previously was called Arizona United. Tulsa is 4-2-1 all-time against the Phoenix franchise.
Tulsa will have a new but familiar face on its roster for Saturday’s match. Forward Christian Thierjung has re-joined the Roughnecks on loan from Reno 1868 FC. The University of California product spent the final half of last season with the Roughnecks, scoring 4 goals in 16 appearances.
It is also expected that Jon Bakero will be with the club on loan from the Chicago Fire. Bakero, who was the Fire’s top selection in the MLS Super Draft this year, has made one appearance for TRFC this season, and it was an eventful one. In 45 minutes of action, the forward assisted on one goal and scored one himself, a game-tying goal in stoppage time, in a 2-2 draw in Fresno.
Saturday’s game marks the first of 2 straight away matches for TRFC. Next Saturday, June 23, the Roughnecks will be in California for a meeting with Orange County SC.
Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+ for fans with a subscription to the service.
