FC Tulsa held on late defensively to secure a much-needed road point in a 1-1 draw against current Western Conference leaders El Paso Locomotive FC last Friday night at Southwest University Park.
The Scissortails were quick to strike out the gate as a nifty attacking sequence was capped off by Jeorgio Kocevski finding the head of Logan Dorsey in the eighth minute for an early lead. The Tulsa advantage would not last long, however, as a poor back pass was pounced on by the hosts nine minutes later to level the match. El Paso dominated the ball in the first half with 74 percent of possession, but the score remained knotted up at the break.
The hosts attempted to push for a match winner in the second half, but Tulsa showed up defensively, allowing just 0.13 expected goals in the frame with Dane Jacomen not given too much to deal with. The best chance in the half for either side was a late free kick from Stefan Lukic that was just left of the post from more than 30 yards out. Ultimately, neither side found a breakthrough as they split the points on the evening.

September’s four-match road trip was a mixed bag for the Scissortails with three draws being all the club has to show so far for its travels. As the jockeying continues for a top four finish and at least one home playoff match, there is work left to do in these last five matches for Tulsa to get the chance to reach its preseason aspirations.
The Western Conference has been a bloodbath in 2026 with the gap between third place and eighth a mere two points. FC Tulsa is currently in a tie for seventh place with San Antonio FC but has its match in hand on Wednesday against New Mexico United with the chance to slingshot as high as third. With a magic number of 11 points for the Black and Gold to clinch a second straight playoff berth for just the second time in club history, there are still many opportunities for the Scissortails to shake up the table and make another late season surge.
As the club’s four-match away spell comes to an end, Tulsa is in the midst of perhaps its most perilous three-match stretch of the season, all in a nine-day span. They notched a point against current West leaders El Paso Locomotive FC and now gear up for a midweek clash against second-place New Mexico United followed by fourth-place Sacramento Republic FC at the weekend. As the remaining schedule unfolds, Tulsa’s fate is very much in its hands as it faces challenger after challenger in the Wild West.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Defender Owen Damm: Tulsa fans were ecstatic to see the 23-year-old wingback make his return from injury last Friday night off the bench after a two-month absence. Damm’s early season form provided a valuable dimension to this Tulsa side with his ability to lock down a side of the pitch a luxury in this league. As he ramps up his match fitness, Damm is likely to be leaned on as the season winds down to give a spark to the club’s playoff aspirations.
Midfielder Jeorgio Kocevski: Having started all but one league match for Tulsa in 2026, Kocevski has been an unsung hero for the side helping to pull the strings in his central midfield role. With assists in consecutive matches, his rapport with his teammates has continued to develop as he gets more involved in the Black and Gold’s attacking plans.
Forward Logan Dorsey: As the Scissortails have looked for more consistency in the attack these last few weeks, Dorsey has often answered the bell with five goals across all competitions since joining the squad in June. The Minnesota United FC loanee has shown a knack for getting the ball in dangerous areas and should be called on down the stretch to slot those chances home as the playoff push continues.

This is the 11th meeting between Tulsa and New Mexico with each side being victorious four times with a pair of draws rounding out the series. The highest profile match between these two sides came in last season’s Western Conference Final where Tulsa dominated in a 3-0 victory featuring a brace from Taylor Calheira and another goal from Jamie Webber. Tulsa is unbeaten in its last three home matches against New Mexico including wins in its last two affairs at ONEOK Field.
Dennis Sanchez recently signed a contract extension to remain in Albuquerque long-term and has his side in second place in the West. New Mexico has struggled as of late with just three points in its last four matches. Greg Hurst has been in great form for New Mexico with ten goals on the season, two shy of his best season mark with the club. Niall Reid-Stephen (six goals) and Dayonn Harris (six assists) also factor into the attack while Kristopher Shakes leads the USL Championship with 96 saves.
