The Scissortails came flying out the gate with a flurry of early attacking chances including a loose ball in the box that was turned home by Ordóñez in the fourth minute, marking the fastest goal for FC Tulsa in 2026. The Guatemalan forward was alert again just 16 minutes later as he punished the hosts for an errant back pass to double the Tulsa lead.

The hosts pulled one back just two minutes into the second half and appeared to have momentum before disaster struck at the back with the goalkeeper mishandling a long ball from Ian Carlo Souza Daniel that Ordóñez calmly tucked away for his third goal of the night in the 55th minute. 

After Kalil ElMedkhar drew a foul outside the box on a fast break later in the half, Delentz Pierre stepped up and fired the ensuing free kick into the bottom left corner for his first career FC Tulsa goal. Three minutes later, Logan Dorsey joined in the fun off a feed from Giordano Colli to finish things off in the Scissortails’ largest win of the season.

KEY STORYLINES

Ordóñez’ hat trick was the third in FC Tulsa history and the fastest of the three with the Guatemalan forward reaching the mark in the 55th minute. His performance earned him USL Championship Player of the Week honors.

Pierre recorded his first career goal for FC Tulsa in the 69th minute with his low-struck free kick being named Goal of the Week. The Haitian defender completed 36 of 41 passes and won three of four duels while leading the club with nine final third entries. Jamie Webber also earned his fourth Team of the Week nod in the last six weeks as his superb summer form in the midfield continues. He recorded team-highs by completing 43 of 50 passes, posting 77 touches and winning 11 of 16 duels on the night.

The Western Conference has been a bloodbath in 2026 with the gap between first place and seventh a mere six points. FC Tulsa currently finds themselves in the middle of that pack in fourth place but has matches in hand on both El Paso and Orange County ahead of them. As the club continues to get players back from injury, the Scissortails are in prime position to make a late charge with matches left against five of its top six challengers.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Goalkeeper Dane Jacomen: Jacomen has emerged as an unsung hero for the Scissortails in 2026 as he has excelled since being called into action in early July. With only three goals allowed in his last seven starts and a staggering 0.60 GAA in the regular season, his presence has emboldened the back line and allowed them to play with confidence defensively knowing they can trust their guy in between the sticks.

Defender Lucas Stauffer: Much of the shine for FC Tulsa’s recent defensive prowess has gone to the reinstatement of the trio of Lamar Batista, Abdoulaye Cissoko and Ian Carlo Souza Daniel, but perhaps lost in that has been the play of Lucas Stauffer in the left wingback role over the last seven league matches for the Scissortails. The Kentucky native has limited opponent’s attacking threats on the right while also ranking third for the Scissortails in chances created (17).

Forward Logan Dorsey: Tulsa’s other midseason addition up top has been a consistent threat on goal the last two months with four goals across all competitions including one off the bench last weekend. The combination of himself, Ordóñez and Remi Cabral, who recently returned from an extended absence, give the Scissortails a variety of capable options in the attack for the home stretch of the season.

OPPONENT INFO: RHODE ISLAND FC

This is the second meeting between Tulsa and Rhode Island and the first at ONEOK Field. Rhode Island is the only current USL Championship club that has not played in Tulsa apart from this season’s pair of expansion sides.

Khano Smith is in his third season at the helm and looks to carry his club back to a third consecutive Eastern Conference Final. Rhode Island enters this match in sixth place in the East with a pair of victories in its last two matches against Western Conference opposition.

Rhode Island lost one of the league’s premier strikers, JJ Williams, this week to Heart of Midlothian FC in the Scottish Premiership. He led the club in goals (8), assists (4) and shots (51) which he led the league in. The visitors are also without standout defender Hugo Bacharach due to yellow card accumulation. He ranks fourth in the league in tackles won (31) and duels won (159). Jojea Kwizera will be tasked with continuing his current form with five goals and 42 chances created, the fifth most in the league.

He has a ton of composure on the ball. He’s really good at holding the ball up which we saw against Orange County. It’s taken some time for him to build relationships with teammates, but it was nice to see all of that come to life.”
