TULSA — FC Tulsa has advanced to the Round of 16 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the first time in franchise history, and takes on MLS side Sporting KC on Tuesday, May 21.
This is the first time in franchise history that FC Tulsa has made it to the Round of 16.
FC Tulsa moved on to the Round of 16 after defeating Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC 1-0 in the Round of 32. After forward Phillip Goodrum secured the game by scoring a goal in the 88th minute.
FC Tulsa enters the match with a standing of 2W-3L-4D, ranking 11th in the USL Western Conference after their loss against Tampa Bay this weekend. Sporting KC stands at 2W-6L-5D, ranking 13th in the MLS Western Conference.
Sporting KC did not advance past the Round of 32 in last year’s U.S. Open Cup, but advanced to the MLS Cup Conference Semifinals in 2023. FC Tulsa has competed against MLS side FC Dallas twice in the Open Cup. In 2017, FC Tulsa was defeated by FC Dallas 2-1 and in 2022 FC Tulsa was defeated 2-1 in Round 3.
