TULSA – FC Tulsa has moved on to the Round of 32 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and takes on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC on Tuesday, May 7.
FC Tulsa moved on after defeating USL League One side Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC. In the draw held on April 18, FC Tulsa was set as the away team to face Pittsburgh Riverhound SC, who entered in the Round of 32 being one of the top eight teams in the USL last season.
FC Tulsa will have to travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after being on the road for two straight USL-C regular season matches. The Open Cup match will take place on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 PM ET at Highmark Stadium
FC Tulsa stands 2W-2L-3D in the Western Conference of the USL while having 9 points. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC comes into the competition with 3W-3L-2D and 11 points in the Eastern Conference of the USL.
This will be the second time that FC Tulsa has advanced to the Round of 32. The first being in 2017 under the Roughnecks Era. Last year in the Open Cup, FC Tulsa was defeated in the second round by Tulsa Athletic. With their advancement it was the first time that FC Tulsa had defeated a professional team, three of their advancements were against amatuer teams.
In the 2023 U.S. Open Cup, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds defeated two MLS opponents, the New England Revolution and Columbus Crew, reaching the quarterfinals of the historic tournament for the second time in club history. As a result, the club advanced the furthest from the USL.
This will be the 20th time Pittsburgh has competed in the Open Cup.
