TULSA – FC Tulsa travels to face the second ranked team in the Western Conference, Sacramento Republic SC.
Standings: FC Tulsa is coming off of their record-breaking Home Opener on Friday, April 5. Despite the 3-3 draw against defending USL Champions, Phoenix Rising FC, FC Tulsa stood strong with multiple players adding to the score sheet and three players being named to the USL Week 5 Team of the Week. FC Tulsa enters into Week 6 with a record of 1-1-1 ranking them 8th in the Western Conference with 4 points.
Sacramento Republic FC enters into Week 6 with a record of 3-2-0 currently ranked second in the Western Conference with 11 points. The first place team in the Western Conference is Orange County SC, which has been the only team that FC Tulsa had their loss against on March 30. Only one goal is the differential between Sacramento Republic and Orange County. Something for fans to take note of is the difference in games played. FC Tulsa has had two weeks off since the beginning of the season leaving them with only three games played compared to the five games that Sacramento Republic has played.
FC Tulsa’s Last Match: FC Tulsa hosted Phoenix Rising FC for their previous match last Friday at ONEOK Field. FC Tulsa came off blazing hot with Stefan Stojanovic scoring within the first 52 seconds of the match to make the score 1-0. FC Tulsa fell back before the first half with Phoenix Rising FC scoring twice, including one off a penalty kick.
FC Tulsa came back in the second half with FC Tulsa’s Midfielder Edwin Laszo scoring off Justin Portillo’s corner kick. FC Tulsa did it again less than 10 minutes later, as Alexis Souahy capitalized off another one of Portillo’s corner kicks.
FC Tulsa left their Home Opener with only one point after the 3-3 draw result against Phoenix Rising.
Last Matchup Against Sacramento Republic FC: FC Tulsa took on Sacramento Republic FC at ONEOK Field on April 29, 2023. FC Tulsa drew 1-1 against Sacramento Republic FC taking home one point after former Forward Moses Dyer scored in the 76th minute.
Players to watch: Players to watch this week are Edwin Laszo and Justin Portillo. Both players were named to the Week 5 USL Team of the Week for their efforts in last Friday’s home match. Justin Portillo had two assists of corner kicks and created multiple chances for the team in the pink kits. Edwin Laszo had just arrived in Tulsa a week earlier and was determined to make a memorable debut for FC Tulsa. The midfielder took five shots overall and won 3 of 4 tackles and 12 of 18 duals overall defensively. On the roster for FC Tulsa are also Forward Stefan Stojanovic who has two goals in three games and Defender Alexis Souahy who was also named to the Week 5 Team of the Week.
On the Sacramento Republic FC side, Forward Trevor Amann, Forward Russel Cicerone and Goalkeeper Danny Vitiello are three players that have made Sacramento Republic a team to recognize. Amann’s debut for Sacramento Republic in Week 1 of the USL Championship season named him USL Player of the Week as he scored both goals in their 2-2 draw against Orange County SC. Amann also leads the USL in goals scored with 4 just ahead of FC Tulsa’s Stefan Stojanovic’s 2 goals. Cicerone was named to the Week 5 Team of the Week as well as being nominated for Goal of the Week. Goalkeeper Danny Vitiello has been nominated for Save of the Week two weeks in a row and ranks first on the season with three clean sheets.
