At 18 years old, the youngest player in franchise history is set to return.
TULSA – Youngest player in franchise history, Angel Bernal returns to FC Tulsa ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season.
Proving himself late in the season with his first professional goal against Hartford Athletic on October 13.
Being the youngest player in franchise history at the time of his signing, Bernal has made a statement for FC Tulsa and has a bright future ahead with the club.
“It’s great to be back and I am excited to work hard.” Bernal said, “I am looking forward to seeing all the new faces in the club.”
While being such a young player as its challenges, Bernal played 229 minutes in the 2023 season and appeared in 8 games.
The 18 year-old has a pass accuracy percentage of 92 and a tackles won percentage of 77.
“Angel has an incredible capacity to get behind opponents and deliver dangerous crosses.” Head Coach Blair Gavin said, “He provides us a very dynamic option to put opponents on the back foot.”
Bernal was signed to FC Tulsa towards the end of the 2022 season after spending some time with the academy program of the MLS’ FC Dallas.
Bernal spent seven years with his hometown club’s San Antonio FC Pro Academy and signed in 2016. As a U-14 and U-15 player, Bernal’s team made it to the Copa Rayados tournament cup finals in 2019. In 2012, Bernal made his senior team debut in a friendly against Liga MX club Pumas.
Between his time with the academy programs at San Antonio FC and FC Dallas, Bernal was invited by the Houston Dynamo to participate in the Generational Adidas Cup for the club.
