Match Features Final $1 Beer Night of the Season
TULSA – With only 10 matches remaining in the 2023 USL Championship regular season, the playoff race is in full swing with every result holding true significance. FC Tulsa’s Friday night foe is the Tampa Bay Rowdies, the second matchup between the two Eastern Conference sides in three weeks, as only five home matches remain before postseason play commences.
FC Tulsa currently sits in the eighth playoff position, but in a crowded Eastern Conference, a victory could rocket the club up to sixth.
Four of FC Tulsa’s next five matches will be played at home before four of the club’s five matches to close the season are on the road, making fan support over the next few weeks crucial for the boys in patina.
Wing-back Milo Yosef is the man in form at the moment for Tulsa, fresh off a Team of the Week bench honor for his standout performance in the USL Summer Showcase match last Wednesday in Colorado Springs. The man from Aachen, Germany scored a Goal of the Week nominee and created four scoring chances in the match. Yosef has accounted for two of FC Tulsa’s last three goals scored.
While neither player has found the back of the net over the last three matches, forwards Phillip Goodrum and Moses Dyer have continued to be relentless on the attack. Goodrum’s 24 shots on target rank third in the USL Championship, and Dyer’s 61 total shots rank third as well.
After dropping the first matchup with the Rowdies this season, revenge will be front-of-mind for FC Tulsa come kickoff.
Kickoff from ONEOK Field is slated for 8 p.m. CT.
SCOUTING TAMPA BAY
The Tampa Bay Rowdies are coming off a commanding 4-1 win over Monterey Bay F.C. on the road, dominating the Western Conference side with three second-half goals and controlling 60% of the possession. Over its last six outings, the Rowdies have posted a 3W-2L-1D record with 10 goals scored and three clean sheets recorded. Overall, Tampa Bay is tied for the third-highest goal tally in the USL Championship (39) while allowing the third-fewest (22). Tampa currently occupies the third spot in the East with 41 points earned in 23 matches played.
On the season, JJ Williams leads the club with nine goals, followed closely by Cal Jennings and Charlie Dennis who have eight apiece. Both Jennings and Williams netted goals vs. FC Tulsa three weeks ago. Since being named the head coach of the Rowdies, Nicky Law has two wins and a loss under his belt.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Phillip Goodrum’s seven goals this season tie the forward for the ninth-most goals in franchise history alongside Christhian Altimarano, Toby Uzo, Luca Loba, and Janu Silva. It took Goodrum only 13 appearances to do so, and his next goal would put Goodrum in sole possession of eighth place.
