Match at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC Kicks off at 8 p.m CT
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – FC Tulsa will be featured on the biggest annual summer stage the USL Championship has to offer, the USL Summer Showcase, on Wednesday night. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC stands to be its opponent, and the match will be broadcasted nationally on ESPN2.
Blair Gavin’s group enters the match with the light burden of back-to-back losses following its franchise-tying best five-match win streak. FC Tulsa managed 10 goals over its five consecutive wins while holding its foes to only five, but has failed to find the back of the net in each of its two recent losses while conceding three goals in both.
As a result, defenders Patrick Seagrist and Keegan Hughes were added to Tulsa’s roster to aid in bolstering its back line while also providing a link to the frontline composed of Moses Dyer, Marcus Epps, and Phillip Goodrum.
The marquee USL Championship event of the summer poses as FC Tulsa’s first-ever visit to Weidner Field, which was completed in 2021. In 12 career meetings with Colorado Springs dating back to 2016 when both clubs competed in the Western Conference, Tulsa has posted a 5W-7L-0D record with 14 goals scored.
Despite its two recent results, a win on Wednesday night could shoot the club into 6th place in the East and only four points out of a home playoff spot.
Kickoff from Weidner Field is set for 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
SCOUTING SWITCHBACKS FC
Over its 23 matches played, Switchbacks FC has posted a 10W-11L-2D record, good for 6th in the Western Conference. After back-to-back matches in early July in which Colorado Springs beat Monterey Bay F.C. 4-0, then immediately lost to San Diego Loyal SC 5-0, the score lines have evened out with no match seeing more than three combined goals. Over its last five outings, Switchbacks FC are 2W-2L-1D with seven goals scored and nine conceded. Juan Tejada emerged as Switchbacks FC’s standout player last time out vs. Birmingham Legion FC, netting the match-winner in the 84’ minute and steering all four of his attempts on target.
The club’s style is notable, though somewhat contentious, as Colorado Springs commits the third-most fouls per 90 minutes in the league with 14.8 on the season. Leading the club in that statistic is Aaron Wheeler who demonstrates his aggressive presence on the field with 8.1 fouls per 90 minutes.
STAT OF THE MATCH
One of the best barometers for measuring FC Tulsa’s success to this point in the season has been early goals. When scoring first in matches, Tulsa has posted a 6W-1L-2D record. When leading at halftime, the club is a perfect 5W-0L-0D. However, when trailing or tied heading into the break, FC Tulsa is only 2W-9L-7D.
