Marks First Player of the Week Award for FC Tulsa in 2023
TAMPA, Fla. – Phillip Goodrum’s sensational 90-minute effort vs. Detroit City FC last Friday night commanded not only the attention of FC Tulsa fans, but the USL Championship itself, earning the forward the league’s coveted Player of the Week award, presented by Konami eFootball.
Goodrum was critical in FC Tulsa’s come-from-behind victory by contributing to all three of the club’s goals. He bagged the first goal of the contest from the penalty spot, then came up with FC Tulsa’s equalizer by way of a diving header in the 82’ minute after Tulsa went down 2-1. The airborne spectacle appeared on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays that evening in the No. 2 spot.
As if his two goals were not enough, Goodrum set up Marcus Epps’ match-winner in the 89’ minute with a cheeky backheel pass inside the box, a perfect no-look delivery that Epps buried to secure the 3-2 victory.
“It’s incredible,” Goodrum told Tulsa media following the match when asked about recording the fifth brace of his professional career. “I’m here to help win games and score goals at the end of the day. Tonight, I feel like I did my job. It’s huge for my confidence and I think it’s huge for the team’s confidence. I’m thrilled to get the three points, and also to get on the score sheet again.”
Since being acquired by FC Tulsa on May 22 from Memphis 901 FC, Goodrum has scored four goals and logged one assist in six appearances for his new club.
Goodrum will lead the FC Tulsa charge into Indianapolis this upcoming weekend when it takes on Indy Eleven on Saturday, July 8 at 6 p.m. CT.
