MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Perhaps the most exciting reunion in the USL Championship this season will take place at AutoZone Park on Wednesday night following one of the biggest player-for-player swaps the league has ever seen two months ago.
FC Tulsa forward Phillip Goodrum returns to the very grounds on which he scored 21 regular season goals a year ago to take on his former club, Memphis 901 FC. On the other side of the ball, FC Tulsa will compete against its franchise leader in goals, assists, appearances, and minutes played, Rodrigo da Costa, for the first time.
A result for FC Tulsa is much needed as the club is winless over its last three outings, managing just one goal over that span, a conversion from the penalty spot by Phillip Goodrum.
Entering the match just three points out of a playoff spot, another premier win over a top opponent reminiscent of Tulsa’s midweek win over Louisville City FC a few weeks back could reset FC Tulsa’s current trajectory. With four of its next five opponents currently sitting below the playoff line, a three-point outing at Memphis could jumpstart a midseason run up the table.
After all, FC Tulsa has yet to lose a midweek match this season.
Kickoff from AutoZone Park is set for 7 p.m. CT.
