FC Tulsa Won First Ever Meeting Between the Two Sides Last Season, 2-1
TULSA – Let the second-ever Tulsa Derby commence. Just as the Second Round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup played out a year ago, FC Tula will once again take on local NPSL side Tulsa Athletic in the Second Round of the tournament on April 5. The contest will take place at Hicks Park, the home of Athletic.
As a USL Championship club, FC Tulsa enters the 2023 Open Cup in the Second Round primed to face the winner of last night’s First Round match between Tulsa Athletic and Brazos Valley Cavalry FC. Fresh off its third first-place Conference finish in four years at the NPSL level, Athletic proved victorious over Brazos Valley, lifted by a 31’ minute goal off the boot of Stefan Cvetanovic and sound defense to blank the opposition and secure the 1-0 triumph.
When the two Tulsa organizations clashed in the Second Round of the 2022 Open Cup at ONEOK Field, it was FC Tulsa who came out on top by a 2-1 score line, a win that spurred FC Tulsa onto the Third Round to face Major League Soccer’s FC Dallas.
FC Tulsa at Tulsa Athletic is slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Wednesday, April 5 at Hicks Park.
