6’2″ Midfielder Appeared in Each of Tulsa’s Final Six Matches Last Season
TULSA – More of the young talent acquired by FC Tulsa near the conclusion of the 2022 season is being retained by the club in 2023 as 19-year-old midfielder Christopher Pearson will return to Tulsa’s roster next year.
The 6’2” product out of Jamaica impressed following his professional debut on September 7 and subsequent five appearances for FC Tulsa last season. Despite his young age, Pearson demonstrated the ability to exploit his size while commanding the central positions of the pitch defensively and while advancing in possession. Pearson was named a starter in each of FC Tulsa’s final four matches of the season in which it went 2W-1L-1D.
“Chris has shown he can play at a high level at a young age,” said FC Tulsa head coach Blair Gavin. “His hunger to improve and his desire to help the team will allow him to reach his full potential.”
Although he did not register a goal or assist a season ago, Pearson directly influenced two of his club’s goals via woodwork ricochets. The first occurred on September 10 when Pearson ripped a missile from 20 yards out that bounced high off the left post in Hartford and into the path of Darío Suárez. On September 7, Pearson forced Louisville City FC’s Kyle Morton into a full stretch to parry another rocket over the bar, leading to a corner kick on which Adrián Diz Pe scored an 84’ minute equalizer.
“I’m definitely excited for this new season,” said Pearson. “I’ve gained the familiarity with my teammates and the league in the latter part of last season that has helped me to prepare myself for this upcoming season.”
Signed from Cavalier FC of the Jamaican National Premier League last July, Pearson capped five times for Jamaica’s U-20 squad in the CONCACAF U-20 Championship and captained his crew twice. He was also selected three times to the senior “Reggae Boyz” roster during the country’s final window of World Cup Qualifying in March of 2022.
The promising teenager will link up with fellow youngsters Luca Sowinski and Blaine Ferri in addition to veterans Rodrigo da Costa, Eric Bird, and Collin Fernandez to comprise FC Tulsa’s 2023 midfield to date.
