Wormell Named to Team of the Week, Diz Pe Receives Bench Honors
TAMPA, Fla. – Capping off a brilliant week in net, FC Tulsa goalkeeper Austin Wormell was honored with his first career placement on the USL Championship’s Team of the Week (Week 13) on Tuesday afternoon. The recognition follows two matches last week where Wormell made 10 saves on 11 shots, leading FC Tulsa to two home results, including a clean sheet on Saturday night against Miami FC. Defender Adrián Diz Pe was also recognized on the league’s Team of the Week Bench for his work on the back line. Like Wormell, it is Diz Pe’s first such honor as a member of FC Tulsa.
Wormell made his first two starts between the posts of the season, squaring off against the Tampa Bay Rowdies on Wednesday and Miami on Saturday. The Tulsa native and Bishop Kelley High School alum posted a 90.9% save pct., the highest mark for any USL Championship keeper with multiple starts in 2022. Despite logging only 199 minutes, including stoppage time, Wormell posted a cumulative -2.53 Goals Minus Expected Goals rate over his two starts and has been worth 2.46 Goals Added on the season, the seventh-most for any keeper in the league (according to American Soccer Analysis).
Also making two starts this past week, defender Adrián Diz Pe slid over to occupy the right center-back position in FC Tulsa’s new 3-4-3 formation. He won seven of his eight tackle attempts across both appearances and had eight clearances. The Cuban won possession 23 times and proved dominant in the air, winning 66% of his aerial duels (19/29).
Wormell and Diz Pe’s Week 13 Team of the Week inclusions mark the seventh and eighth instances of an FC Tulsa player earning the award in 2022. JJ Williams has been honored once, Joaquín Rivas twice, and Gabi Torres earned the recognition three consecutive times from Weeks 2-4.
