The Bird continues to soar as playoff implications become more and more important with every match.
Eric Bird’s pristine performance on Sunday in Birmingham did not go unnoticed as the midfielder was rewarded by being named to the USL Championship Team of the Week Bench for Week 18.
The offense operated through Bird who played the role of the traveling maestro on the road, registering 55 total passes from the central-midfield position with an astounding 87.3% passing accuracy rating. This high rating can sometimes be achieved by defensive players playing the ball short, but that was not what Bird had in mind on Sunday afternoon.
He created two scoring chances, one of which was a gorgeous, low-driven ball down the left wing that hit Darío Suárez in stride, slotting the ball past three defenders and setting Suárez loose in front of goal to go up 2-0 in a must-win matchup. The ball to Suárez had to be precise and pacey to not slow up the on-rushing winger, and Bird delivered beautifully.
Bird did contribute on the defensive end of the pitch as well, coming up with three crucial tackles in the middle of the field to keep Legion FC grounded, and more importantly, behind FC Tulsa on the scoreboard.
This is Eric Bird’s second League nomination of the 2021 season. He was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week back in Week 10 as well.
