TULSA – They say soccer is a simple game – 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win. Well, what is it that they say about German-born Americans? There’s one, for sure, who is lethal in front of goal.
“Jerome is a player that teams will have to game plan around to nullify his threat.” FC Tulsa Head Coach Michael Nsien said. “Jerome makes excellent penetrating runs in behind defenses that asks them questions. If he is not finding his own space, he is freeing up space for someone else. Which is why he will be a great weapon that will complement all of the talent we have put together. All teams that are a legitimate contender for a deep USL run, have players that can hit double digits in goals. Jerome has shown he is capable of that return at this level.”
Kiesewetter has shown that at every level of soccer he can score goals and create for others. From his time in the Bundesliga in Germany to the Western Conference of the USL Championship, Kiesewetter knows how to hone in on the one crucial aspect of soccer: putting the ball in the back of the net.
Kiesewetter set the USL Championship on fire when he arrived in 2019, scoring 10 goals in his first 10 matches for El Paso Locomotive FC. His experience with the USMNT, in one of Europe’s top 5 leagues, and in the different levels of American soccer give him a unique perspective and leadership qualities.
“I have absolutely no problem taking more responsibility for the team, but at the end of the day what happens on the field matters,” Kiesewetter said. “If there’s someone who’s less experienced but performs day in and out that’s also a form of leading to me. If I think my input can help the team win or be successful I will 100% do it.”
As FC Tulsa continues to build its 2021 roster, a theme continues to emerge: the impact that Coach Nsien has on the players that buy into this system.
“Tulsa was a really attractive destination for me because of head coach Michael Nsien,” said Kiesewetter. “He showed very early interest in me, and our conversations were great. He convinced me with the way he sees the game, how it should be played and of course with the vision of FC Tulsa’s owners for a successful future.”
Jerome Kiesewetter will be returning to the stage in the USL Championship and playing in front of the Tulsa fans as friend this time, not foe.
“I’m so excited to get in front of the fans, even more after this year,” Kiesewetter said. “We mostly didn’t have any [fans that could attend], so it will be awesome to get out and play for them.”
