TULSA – FC Tulsa is officially America’s team. Today, the USL draw assigned a premier international team to each club competing in the USL eCup: FIFA 20 edition, and FC Tulsa was drawn as the United States Men’s National Team. The draw consisted of the top 32 rated international teams in the EA Sports FIFA 20 video game being paired with the 32 clubs competing in the tournament.
The draw also announced who FC Tulsa would face in the Round of 32 of the qualifying tournament, and it’s none other than OKC Energy FC and Portugal. The Black Gold Derby will take to the virtual pitch for the first showdown of 2020.
With the teams paired and the matchups decided, FC Tulsa is announcing today that it will compete with a roster of two current Tulsa players as well as a pair of fans for the upcoming USL eCup: FIFA 20 edition. Forwards Panin Boakye and Darío Suárez will be available for selection during the competition as player representatives.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Boakye said. “I love playing FIFA, so I feel excited also to be part of this FIFA20 tournament for the team.”
Boakye manned the sticks for the second leg of FC Tulsa’s FIFA match against Wigan Athletic, playing as the USMNT against England in a back-and-forth, thrilling affair that left fans excited to see more or the Ghanaian’s FIFA ability. Suárez is the other player on the roster for the FC Tulsa FIFA team, and he’s excited to be a part of the new virtual competition.
“It's amazing,” he said. “When I was little, I could never have a game system myself, but I always found a way to play. Now we’re playing in the virtual league.”
The club will also be represented by two FC Tulsa fans who come with highly touted FIFA abilities. Jason Cobb is based out of Dallas, Texas and is a formerly ranked FIFA player.
“It’s a great opportunity to raise money for our charity and have some fun doing so,” Cobb said. “But we are here to win and not just to compete.”
Billy Poss is based out of Florida and currently reps FC Tulsa in the eUSL tournament, a fan-run FIFA tournament organized by fans league-wide. As of April 18, Billy was undefeated in that tournament, and he’s been called up to this competition as well.
“I’m incredibly proud and excited to have a chance to represent FC Tulsa,” he said. “I’ll do everything I can to help us win!”
The competition begins May 4 when FC Tulsa, playing as the USMNT takes on Energy FC playing as Portugal. The match will be streamed on the FC Tulsa Twitch Channel. A reminder that FC Tulsa is playing for the Tulsa Area United Way, and a link to donate will be available during the stream.
