PORTLAND, OR– The Tulsa Roughnecks traveled to Portland, Oregon on Saturday, July 6th at Providence Park to take on Portland Timbers 2. The Tulsa Roughnecks were looking to pick up crucial points away from home.
The match began quickly with Rodrigo Da Costa, in the 14th minute, getting on the end of a Christhian Altamirano cross. Alatmirano’s cross found Da Costa on the back post as he beat a Timbers defender to put the volley into the back of the net. From there, Portland Timbers 2 began to push back for the equalizer, but the Tulsa Roughnecks were handling the pressure well, yet conceded 11 fouls in the first half. Each side struggled with fouls, Portland Timbers 2 also conceded over 10 fouls. The half ended with the Tulsa Roughnecks leading 1-0.
The second half began with the Tulsa Roughnecks trying to keep possession to see out their lead, but Portland Timbers 2 was on the hunt for equalizer, but struggled to get past the Roughnecks backline. Until a bicycle kick by Hurtado in the 78th minute that was blocked by Brayan Reyes in his six-yard box. Brayan Reyes was given his second yellow card in stoppage time for simulation. Further into stoppage time Fredlin Mompremier attempted an acrobatic clearance that landed him a red card and giving up a penalty kick. Todd Wharton tucked away the penalty to level the match at 1-1.
The Tulsa Roughnecks are away from home next week as they travel to Colorado to take on Colorado Springs July 12th.
