Despite possessing the ball for 61% of the match and outshooting Rio Grande Valley FC, the Tulsa Roughnecks FC came up short and fell to the Toros 2-1 Saturday night at ONEOK Field. All three goals came in the second half, with RGV’s coming within two minutes of each other just after the restart. Tulsa’s goal was scored by Joaquin Rivas and was a record setter.

The first half of the match started off quietly. There was not a shot on goal from either team through the first 40 minutes of the game.
The first real chance of the night came for the Roughnecks came at the end of the half when Eti Tavares was fouled just outside the box. Nemanja Vukovic took the free kick and bent the ball to the lower right corner, but Toros keeper Michael Nelson got a hand on the ball and denied the goal.
Just minutes into the second half, RGV earned a corner kick and scored the game’s first goal. In the 51st minute, Todd Wharton sent in the corner to the near post. The ball skipped off the head of Nicolas Perea and found the back of the net, giving RGV the lead.
Just two minutes later, the Toros doubled the margin. From midfield, Jesus Enriquez sent a ball to the left side of the box. Fabian Cerda made an ill-advised attempt to come out for the ball, but Carlos Small beat him to it and dribbled around the keeper to set up an easy finished that made it a 2-0 lead.

This is a makeup game that was rescheduled from earlier in the season when a thunderstorm forced the match to be abandoned. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM at Toyota Stadium in St. Louis.
Tulsa’s final match of the season will take place next Saturday, October 13, when Seattle Sounders FC 2 visit ONEOK Field. Kickoff for the finale is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
