MATCH PREVIEW
Saturday, May 26
vs. OKC Energy FC
Kickoff – 7:00 p.m. at ONEOK Field
It will be the second edition of Oklahoma’s Black Gold Derby when the Tulsa Roughnecks FC host the Oklahoma City Energy at ONEOK Field on Saturday, May 26. It will be a great way to kick off the long Memorial Day Weekend as activities will begin with a pre-game soccer clinic for youth players and will conclude with a large holiday Fireworks Spectacular following the game. Kickoff for the match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
All of Saturday’s activities are presented by Case & Associates, Tulsa’s Channel 8 and The Sports Animal 97.1.
The Roughnecks will be looking for their first win of the season in the rivalry match. It has been a season of draws for the Roughnecks thus far as they have tied in six of their ten regular season matches for a total of six points. The six draws have already matched a franchise high for TRFC, despite less than 1/3 of the season having been played.
TRFC will need to reverse its home form in order to get the full three points. So far in 2018, Tulsa has two draws and three losses in five home matches. In contrast, TRFC has lost only one time away from ONEOK Field, playing to draws in four of five away matches this season. That one loss came at Oklahoma City in the season opener.
Oklahoma City also comes into the match with six points from a 2-8-0 record. After defeating the Roughnecks in the opener, the Energy suffered an eight-game losing streak before ending the skid with a 1-0 win last Saturday at home against Colorado Springs.
Both teams have struggled to find the back of the net. Oklahoma City is last among all USL teams with only four goals scored this season, while the Roughnecks rank 24th with nine goals.
The match is one of three this season between the Oklahoma sides. The Energy could clinch the 2018 Black Gold Derby series with a victory in Saturday’s game.
Tickets for the match are available online by clicking HERE, over the telephone at (918) 744-5901 or in person at the stadium ticket office. Youth players who wear their team’s jersey can obtain any level ticket in the seating bowl or on the grass berm for just $5.
