MATCH PREVIEW
2018 HOME OPENER
Saturday, March 24
vs. Real Monarchs
Kickoff – 7:00 p.m. at ONEOK Field
Tulsa Roughnecks FC will play its 2018 home opener at ONEOK this Saturday, March 24, when it hosts Real Monarchs SLC. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in downtown Tulsa with a large Fireworks Spectacular planned for after the match to celebrate the beginning of the Roughnecks fourth season of play.
The game will mark the first of three straight home matches at ONEOK Field and is the first of 17 USL regular season home games this year. The Roughnecks opened their 2018 campaign last Saturday in Oklahoma City with a narrow, 1-0 loss to the Energy.
The home opener will provide a difficult matchup for the Roughnecks as the Monarchs were the USL’s 2017 Regular Season Champion, collecting a league-best 67 points with a 20-5-7 record. TRFC was one of the few clubs to enjoy success against Real, claiming a 2-0 home win at ONEOK Field and gaining a point with a 0-0 draw in the return leg in Utah.
Historically, Tulsa has a 2-1-3 all-time record against the Monarchs with the only defeat coming in a 1-0 home loss during the 2016 season.
The Roughnecks will not have a scouting report on the opposition as Saturday’s match will be the season opener for the Monarchs.
A number of activities and events are scheduled around the home opener for TRFC. It all begins with a Youth Parade at 6:00 p.m. Youth soccer teams are encouraged to participate in a season-opening parade that will begin on Greenwood Avenue and finish at the Oil Derrick Entrance of ONEOK Field.
The parade will be followed by a March to the Match at 6:45 p.m. with supporters groups, youth players and other fans. The march into the stadium will begin at the Oil Derrick Entrance.
Prior to kickoff, a large American Flag will cover the center of the field as Olivia Kay from NBC’s The Voice sings the National Anthem.
The fun will continue after the match with the large Fireworks Spectacular presented by PSO Power Hours, 2 Works For You and 106.9 K-Hits.
Following the Fireworks, fans can head to the Busch Scoreboard Bar, where they will have the chance to meet and get autographs from Roughnecks players and coaches. In addition, adults, ages 21 and over, will be able to purchase 22-ounce Budweiser products for only $4 per serving. It will be served in a Roughnecks commemorative, souvenir cup that is ideal for using in the backyard or at the lake or pool this summer.
