The Tulsa Roughnecks FC have agreed to terms with defender Enrique Montano for the 2018 season, pending league and federation approval. Montano joins the Roughnecks with USL experience after playing for Louisville and Sacramento.
“Enrique is a very dynamic left back, who is quick in the tackle with good size and speed,” said TRFC Head Coach David Vaudreuil. “He had a very successful run in Louisville and most recently down in Mexico, and we are excited to have him on the team.”
The California native played his college career at San Jose State University, appearing in 53 matches while logging 4,482 minutes in three seasons as a Spartan. In 2012 he was honored with the Coaches Award which exemplifies excellence on and off the pitch, and in 2014 he was named the team Defensive MVP.
Montano then spent his first two professional seasons with Louisville City FC before spending last year with Sacramento Republic FC. In his first three professional seasons in the USL, he has appeared in 32 games while playing 2,433 minutes.
The defender briefly signed with Deportivo Tepic, a division III squad in Mexico before coming over to the Roughnecks.
In Tulsa’s third preseason game against Oral Roberts University, Montano buried a goal from distance to help the Roughnecks secure a victory.
The Roughnecks will head to Chicago on Saturday afternoon to face their MLS affiliate in a challenging tune-up for the 2018 regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:00pm in the Windy City.
