The Tulsa Roughnecks FC has made a move to enhance its attacking options this week by signing midfielder/forward Christian Thierjung to a USL contract for the remainder of the 2017 season. The 22-year-old is expected to be available to play in Saturday’s match against Phoenix Rising FC.
Thierjung (TEER-young) has spent the spring and summer with the New York Cosmos, playing for their NPSL team. He scored a total of five goals with the Cosmos B team, including a hat trick in their 3-0 win to end the season.
He attended the University of California and was a third-round pick of the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He scored 27 goals and recorded 7 assists in his four years with the Golden Bears. He was named to the 2016 All-Pac-12 First Team following his senior season.
Thierjung also played in the PDL last summer for the Burlingame Dragons. The Dragons are affiliated with the Earthquakes.
