Tulsa Roughnecks FC and Head Coach David Irving announced another roster signing today. Irving said the club has finalized terms with Ivory Coast midfielder Ballobi (Buh-Low-BEE).
Ballobi arrived in Tulsa last week and has been training with the club. He becomes the second Ivorian on the Roughnecks roster, joining Henri. The two have played together previously.
Both of the midfielders hold Green Cards and are Permanent Residents of the United States. Neither will count against Tulsa’s seven international slots.
Ballobi will give Irving and the Roughnecks a veteran presence in the midfield.
“We identified Ballobi recently while we were in Fort Lauderdale for a combine,” said Irving. “He impressed Tom Taylor and I during the three days of games, and he attracted a lot of interest with some really good performances. He knows Henri very well and is a powerful midfield player. We are looking forward to having him onboard with us this season, and he will help strengthen our midfield.”
Ballobi spent last season playing with Icon FC in the new American Soccer League. He helped lead the Sky Blues, who are based in Montville, New Jersey, to a win in the inaugural ASL Cup.
The midfielder will travel with the Roughnecks on Friday when they leave for a preseason trip to Florida. Tulsa will play four games on the trip before returning to Tulsa on March 6.
Tulsa will conclude its preseason slate on Saturday, March 19 by hosting Wichita FC at ONEOK Field. The Roughnecks are scheduled to begin USL regular season play the following week, on Saturday, March 26, by hosting Rio Grande Valley. Kickoff for both matches is set for 7:00PM with tickets available by clicking HERE.
