TULSA, Okla. (September 2, 2026) — FC Tulsa announced today that it has signed Head Coach Luke Spencer to a long-term contract extension.
Spencer has radically transformed the club’s on-field product in just under two seasons at the helm and immediately led the Scissortails to their best season in club history in 2025, culminating in a Western Conference championship last season and hosting the USL Championship Final, both firsts for the club. The club sits at third place in the Western Conference in 2026 with its sights set on another deep playoff run.
“We are extremely excited to keep Luke and his family here in Tulsa,” General Manager and Sporting Director Caleb Sewell said. “In Luke, we are getting one of the most exciting young coaches in the country and someone we firmly believe can lead us to more success over the next few seasons.”
Spencer spent the 2024 season as an assistant coach with the Scissortails under Mario Sanchez before taking over as head coach before the 2025 season. Prior to his time in Oklahoma, he served as the Boys Director for Louisville City FC’s Academy teams. As a player, Spencer was a two-time USL champion with Louisville and scored the winning goal in the 2018 USL Championship Final. He spent his collegiate career with Xavier twice winning the Atlantic 10 championship and being named first-team All-A10 in 2012.
“My family and I are grateful to the Craft family, Caleb, and everyone at this club for the belief they’ve shown in me,” Spencer said. “What we’ve built here over the last two years is the product of a staff and a group of players who come in every day and demand more of each other. We are proud of what we have achieved in a short amount of time, but we are more excited about what we can achieve moving forward.”
In his Tulsa tenure, Spencer has compiled a record of 35-16-18 (W-L-D) across all competitions, sitting just one win shy of tying Michael Nsien as the club’s winningest manager in 51 fewer contests while already boasting the best goal differential in club history (+33). In league play, his record stands at 26-11-14, the best mark in the Western Conference in that span. Of the 69 matches he has coached for the Scissortails, his sides have maintained a strong defensive identity keeping 26 clean sheets and a 1.01 goals allowed average.
2025 was a banner year for the Scissortails with club records set in points (57), wins (22), goals (68), goal differential (+29), shutouts (15) and goals allowed average (0.95). The first place finish in the regular season meant that the West ran through Oklahoma as FC Tulsa went on to earn the first piece of hardware in club history securing the Western Conference championship.
