Goodrum Bags Second Tulsa Goal in Three Appearances
LEESBURG, Va. – Friday night’s match between FC Tulsa featured three goals in the first 23 minutes of action, two penalty kicks, and one goal from Phillip Goodrum to bring his Tulsa tally up to two on the season. However, Tulsa’s lone goal was not enough to secure any points on the road as the club dropped the contest, 3-1.
It took FC Tulsa all of 166 seconds to bag the opening goal of the match, marking the fourth time this season in which the club has opened the scoring. Phillip Goodrum was pulled down inside the Loudoun box and the forward immediately sauntered to the penalty spot. The referee agreed with Goodrum and awarded Tulsa the call, and the native of Nashville converted from the spot for his second Tulsa goal in three matches.
The goal was the sixth-fastest in FC Tulsa history and the quickest since Toby Uzo’s 2′ minute score against San Antonio FC on September 25, 2019.
Heavy pressure from Loudoun earned the home side the equalizer in the 18′ minute. A cross whipped into a dangerous area resulted in a one-on-one marking for Tulsa, and an own goal ensued to level things at 1-1.
Five minutes later, Loudoun took the lead following a deflected shot off the boot of Zach Ryan for his sixth goal of the season.
In the 52′ minute, the penalty debt was repaid to Loudoun as FC Tulsa was whistled for a foul inside its own box. Ryan stood over the ball for the opposition, but Tulsa keeper Michael Nelson thwarted the initial shot in spectacular fashion. Unfortunately, Ryan followed up the save and collected the rebound, burying it for Loudoun’s third of the evening.
Goodrum nearly had his second in the 66′ minute when a miraculous delivery from Marcus Epps split eight bodies inside the 18, but the shot was just high. One minute later, the substitute Moses Dyer forced an acrobatic save from the Loudoun keeper as FC Tulsa began asking serious questions of the Virginia side for the first time in the second half.
Another golden chance subverted Tulsa’s grasp by mere inches in the final seconds of the match when Milo Yosef steered a header on frame, but another key stop by the man between the posts for Loudoun made his third save of the match to solidify the final score at 3-1.
When the dust settled, FC Tulsa out-possessed Loudoun 67% to 33% and outshot the club 15-14, but the advantage on the statline failed to translate to an advantage on the scoreboard.
