Bernal Becomes Youngest Signing in Club History, Breaking Previous Mark Set by Luca Sowinksi
TULSA – FC Tulsa continues to compile young soccer talent and expand its roster with the future in mind. The club has signed 17-year-old Angel Bernal from the FC Dallas Academy to his first professional contract, becoming the youngest player in club history to ink a pro deal with the club.
Bernal spent the majority of his youth career in the Pro Academy program of his hometown club, San Antonio FC. The defender, primarily stationed at right-back, signed with San Antonio’s Pro Academy back in 2016 and played with the side through 2022. Bernal made his senior team debut with San Antonio in a friendly against Liga MX club Pumas in 2021 as a halftime substitute.
As a U-14 and U-15 with San Antonio, Bernal participated in the Copa Rayados tournament in both 2018 and 2019, appearing in the cup final the latter year.
Following seven seasons spent with San Antonio, Bernal was invited as a guest player by the Houston Dynamo to take part in the Generation Adidas Cup in April of 2022 and totaled five tournament appearances for Houston. Only five months later, the Texas native joined the FC Dallas Academy in early August before signing professionally for FC Tulsa in mid-September.
“I’m super excited to get started and show what I have to give,” said Bernal. “I’m excited to meet all the fans and supporters of FC Tulsa.”
Bernal becomes the third player under the age of 20 to ink a professional deal with FC Tulsa over the past three months along with midfielders Luca Sowinski and Christopher Pearson.
