Torres Earns his Third Consecutive Honor, Williams Awarded his First with FC Tulsa
TULSA – Make it three in-a-row for Gabi Torres and a first for JJ Williams. The pair of FC Tulsa goalscorers from Saturday night’s home victory over New York Red Bulls II were honored by the USL Championship on the Team of the Week for Week 4 on Tuesday afternoon. It’s the third consecutive honor for defender Gabi Torres, a first for any Tulsa player in the club’s eight-year history. Meanwhile for forward JJ Williams, who scored twice on Saturday, it’s his first honor of the season.
Torres continues to make his mark as one of the best left backs in the USL Championship after scoring his first goal for FC Tulsa on Saturday. He was a slight defender’s touch away from adding an assist to go along with his tally. In total, Torres had three chances created and three interceptions to lead the team with nine recoveries and completed 50 of his 63 passes.
While Torres helped lock down the defensive side of the ball for Tulsa, Williams was electric offensively. In his first start for FC Tulsa, the 6’5” American forward scored his first two goals for the Golden Boys, including the match-winner just 20 seconds into the second half. He peppered the New York net all match with eight shots, four on target, while creating two chances himself.
Both Torres and Williams will be available tonight for head coach Michael Nsien and FC Tulsa in the Second Round of the U.S. Open Cup at ONEOK Field against Tulsa Athletic. The Tulsa Derby will kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT.
