In Just Three Weeks of Action Wearing the FC Tulsa Shirt, Torres has Received League Honors Twice
TAMPA, Fla. – Gabi Torres continues to prove his offseason signing by FC Tulsa might be one of the most underrated moves in the USL Championship. For the second consecutive week, the Brazilian left-back was named to the league’s Team of the Week for his standout performances in two matches for FC Tulsa over Week 3. Torres is the first Tulsa player to make back-to-back Team of the Weeks since captain Bradley Bourgeois in Weeks 2 & 3 of the 2021 season.
Torres’s pinpoint cross to the feet of Darío Suárez, who finished for a goal, was the vital play in FC Tulsa’s 1-0 win over San Diego last Wednesday at ONEOK Field. While FC Tulsa’s Sunday matinee in Sacramento ultimately finished in a loss, Torres continued to be a danger on the left side.
Playing every minute of the two matches in Week 3, Torres racked up that match-winning assist, three chances created, nine interceptions, 10 clearances and won 15 duals. He also led FC Tulsa in touches in both matches as the team worked through Torres to move the ball up the pitch.
Through four USL Championship matches, Torres and the FC Tulsa defense have allowed just four total goals, the 10th-best per match mark in the USL Championship. They return to the pitch on Saturday night at ONEOK Field as FC Tulsa takes on New York Red Bulls II for the first time in club history. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
