The USL Championship Honors Three FC Tulsa Players for their Week 2 Performances
TAMPA – Three FC Tulsa starters were honored by the USL Championship after the team’s 3-1 home opener victory over Birmingham Legion FC on Saturday night. Defender Gabi Torres and forward Joaquín Rivas were both named to the league’s Team of the Week for Week 2, while keeper Sean Lewis was named to the Team of the Week Bench.
Torres, a newcomer to FC Tulsa’s roster this season, was sensational on the left side of the defense on Saturday. The Brazilian left-back won 11 of his 17 duels, both team highs, and led the team in tackles (4), tackles won (3) and interceptions (5).
On the offensive end, Rivas tallied his first goal of the season in the win, a penalty kick that ultimately was the match-winner. It was Rivas’ 25th goal for Tulsa in his USL Championship career, tied for the most in club history. Rivas was FotMob’s Player of the Match with an 8.4 rating.
Named the Man of the Match by fan vote, keeper Sean Lewis made five saves in FC Tulsa’s victory, his second-highest total in a match since the start of the 2021 season.
FC Tulsa returns to action on Wednesday night at ONEOK Field against San Diego Loyal SC, the first-ever meeting between the sides. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT and tickets to the match are available now.
