Bird Earns First Weekly Award of the Season Thanks to a Stunning Goal and Brilliant Assist on Saturday
TAMPA, Fla. – The debuts of three FC Tulsa teens may have stolen the headlines following the club’s match vs. Detroit City FC last weekend, but Eric Bird’s dazzling 90-minute shift, complete with a goal and an assist, has earned the midfielder a spot in the USL Championship Week 29 Team of the Week.
Bird’s brilliance first flashed in the 67’ minute when he patiently waited for Darío Suárez to fall back into an onside position, then delivered a bullet of a pass down the heart of the pitch. Bird’s feed resulted in a Suárez goal to level the scoring between Tulsa and Detroit City at one apiece.
Only 95 seconds later, Bird took credit for FC Tulsa’s go-ahead goal, his first of the season, while showcasing impeccable ball and body control. A lofted pass from Rodrigo da Costa was chested down by Bird, then unbelievably steered on frame by the midfielder whipping his leg across his body to connect on a perfect shot.
Bird facilitated throughout the entire match, finishing second on the club with 76 touches and accruing an 81% passing accuracy mark. He also concluded his effort with two chances created.
The honor marks Bird’s first Team of the Week award of the season and the 11th time an FC Tulsa man has cracked the Team of the Week in 2022.
