Joaquín Rivas was extended by FC Tulsa ahead of the 2022 regular season.
Following a two-season hiatus from Tulsa soccer, Joaquín Rivas re-introduced himself to the FC Tulsa faithful with two braces in the club’s first three matches of the season. The Salvadorian would total six goals in the regular season and add another in FC Tulsa’s Eastern Conference Quarterfinal match, bringing his tally to seven in 2021. He also had a career-high three assists as well.
He would make 18 starts in 23 appearances in 2021. Rivas’ appearance total decreased from previous seasons due to multiple stints away from the club with El Salvador on international duty.
Rivas scored three goals in the Black Gold Derby against OKC Energy FC in 2021, making him the all-time scoring leader in the rivalry with five goals.
While 2018 was a frustrating season for the Tulsa Roughnecks, Rivas experienced his most productive season as a professional. He scored 12 goals, the most of any season by a player in club history. He served as the club’s captain in six matches in 2018.
He played in 29 matches with the Roughnecks going 3-14-12 in the matches he appeared and 0-5-0 when he didn’t.
Rivas joined the then-Tulsa Roughnecks FC and helped the club make the USL Championship Playoffs. Rivas appeared in all 32 matches in his inaugural Tulsa campaign, scoring five goals and adding three assists. He started 27 of the 32 matches.
Rivas is one of the most prominent FC Tulsa players in club history. He ranks first all-time in appearances (94) and second all-time in starts (79) behind teammate Rodrigo da Costa. His 27 total goals for the club are the second-most in franchise history and the Salvadorian has the second-most minutes logged for the club as well.
Rivas’ 12 goals in the 2018 are the most in a single season in Tulsa history.
2019-2020 – SAINT LOUIS FC (USL CHAMPIONSHIP)
Rivas joined Saint Louis FC in 2019 and made six appearances with one goal and two assists in a season that was shortened by injury. In 2020, He notched another goal and assist in the pandemic-shortened regular season before adding a second goal in the 2020 USL Championship Playoffs. The goal was a dramatic, last-minute winner to advance Saint Louis FC to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
2015-2016 SACRAMENTO REPUBLIC FC (USL CHAMPIONSHIP)
He signed with Sacramento Republic FC prior to the 2015 season. Over two seasons in Sacramento, Rivas made 19 appearances and logged one assist.
2014 KITSAP PUMAS (USL LEAGUE TWO)
Rivas signed to Kitsap Pumas for the 2014 USL League Two season. He made 13 appearances for the club.
Rivas has made 29 total caps for El Salvador on the International stage, 12 of which came during World Cup Qualifying for “La Selecta”. In total, Rivas has found the back of the net four times for his country, three of which came in the 2021 Gold Cup. In the Gold Cup quarterfinal vs Qatar, Rivas was subbed on in the 71′ minute and scored both the equalizer and game winner for El Salvador. Rivas has three assists to go along with his four international goals as well.
The Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior in high school attended the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV) where he made 67 appearances and scored 11 goals during his collegiate career.
